T-Rex Facts
Tyrannosaurus literally means 'tyrant lizard' and the most well-known species of this Dinosaur is of course the scary Tyrannosaurus rex (the word rex means king).
The name Tyrannosaurus rex is usually shortened to T-Rex. The T-Rex lived 68 to 65 million years ago and was a land Dinosaur.
The Tyrannosaurus was a bipedal (stood on two legs) carnivore (ate meat) with a massive skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. The T-Rex had huge back legs and relatively small arms.
It was one of the larger land predetors measuring 13 metres (43 ft) in length and up to 4 metres (13 ft) tall and weighed up to 6.8 tons.
There are over 30 specimens of T-Rex fossils that have been identified, (some are almost intact skeletons).
The T-Rex stole the leading role in Jurassic Park and became a favourite with children in the late 90's.
